When Life Gives You Lemons...Lemon-AID

Typically in the text world everyone knows that LOL means to laugh out loud, however cancer is no laughing matter.  Jill Swanson Peltier who had her own battle with cancer learned about the little things that made her treatments a bit easier.  With this knowledge and a passion for helping people, Jill founded Lemons of Love (LOL), a non-profit 501(c) organization to provide chemo patients with goodie bags that assist with the treatment and healing as they fight through their own battles with cancer.

The goodie bags are filled lemon scented lotion (for dry chemo skin), lemon drops to take away the metallic taste, dark chocolate acai berries for nutrition, antioxidants & fiber, organic ginger tea to help with upset stomachs, an LOL mug & bracelet, a bottle of lemonade, a happy picture drawn by a child, and a pair of superhero socks because it takes a superhero to fight the battle.  Some other items are added that come in through exclusive donations as well as the special people that donate the sewing skills and time making the actual gift bag.  These wonderful bags are delivered to hospitals and cancer patients across the nation.  “Lemons of Love is an adventure run solely on the generosity of humanity, Jill Swanson Peltier.”

Hassett Express has recognized what a great organization LOL is and is participating as a sponsor in the upcoming Pink Lemonade 5k.  This is the 2nd annual race that will benefit the Lemons of Love Foundation and will take place on Saturday, October 2nd in Mount Prospect, IL.  Hassett’s Director of Accounting, Rosemary Giovannelli, is a co-chair for the event and brought the sponsorship opportunity to President & CEO, Michelle Halkerston.  Michelle loved the idea of supporting a local “grassroots” organization as well as one that is run with such care and compassion.
